FAQs

General imaging enquiries

Do I need ethics approval  from the hospital before commencing research or trial work?

As Macquarie Medical Imaging (MMI) is a private entity you may not be required to attain approval from  the Macquarie University Human Research Ethics Committee (MQHREC), assuming you have ethics and/or regulatory approval from another institute. In situations when personnel of MMI act as investigators or associate investigators on behalf of MQ Health or Macquarie University Hospital, MQHREC approval is required. Forms for obtaining Macquarie University ethics approval can be found here. If your project has approval from another recognised HREC, you simply need to complete the ‘Prior Review Form‘.

Can you provide some guidance or help concerning my research project?

Yes we can. Our highly experienced team has in many circumstances contributed to the design of a research project with medical imaging components.

Do you do the analysis?

Through our research partnership with Macquarie Brain Mapping, Macquarie MindScan has access to state-of-the-art anatomical segmentation. We are currently developing additional image analysis services and welcome your feedback.

How much will it cost?

Charges associated with imaging are determined by the type and duration of your scan. Please contact our friendly staff for a quote.

How will I get my data?

CloudStor is one method Macquarie MindScan utilises for the transfer of research data. We are currently investigating additional means for data transfer.

Do we back up data?

In addition to CloudStor storage, research datasets will be stored offline for a period of at least 1 year.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Can you do functional MRI?

Macquarie Medical Imaging can currently has an extensive list of equipment in place to acquire activation data on the Siemens Verio 3T scanner and the GE 750W 3T scanner.

Can you do diffusion tensor imaging (DTI)?

Macquarie Medical Imaging can conduct DTI sequences on both the Siemens Verio 3T and the GE 750W 3T scanners.

How do you collect participant responses?

Participant responses can be collected via button box response pads, eye position and vocal response, as detailed on the list of equipment.

Positron Emission Tomography

Where do you obtain imaging ligands from?

Cyclotek in Melbourne is Australia’s leading cyclotron facility and supplies our range of ligands. We anticipate the cyclotron at Macquarie University Hospital will be re-commissioned in early 2019.

Do you have a PET/CT scanner?

Yes we do. Macquarie Medical Imaging has a GE Discovery 690 with a full 64 slice diagnostic CT. We routinely fuse PET scans to MRI scans using the GE fusion programs. We can fuse all in house MRI scans and most other MRI scans.

We want to try a new ligand never seen in Australia before; can you advise us with this?

Yes we can. Our network and partners in the radio-pharmacy production make Macquarie MindScan perfectly positioned to help you initiate a new ligand.
